Casa Fundada Al 1897 Rigol Cava Brut (no vintage)

Description: This sparkler has larger bubbles and a weak nose of warm biscuit. Fruity notes of pear, apple and baked bread give way to a lingering finish. Pleasing, quaffable and very simple.

Bigi Vipra Bianca 2007

  • Area: Italy, Umbria
  • Grape: Chardonnay, Grechetto
  • Alcohol: 12.5%
  • Rating: Black 88 Dilettante 88
Description: Totally un-oaked, this wine has a nice richness. Not too sweet and not too dry it has a touch of almond with a Fresca-like citrus lift. The Grechetto takes the 'edge' off the chardonnay, giving it a fresh, balanced and soft flavor. Nice.

Bodegas Vinos PiƱol Portal White 2007

  • Area: Spain, Terra Alta
  • Grape: 70% White Garnacha, 20% Sauv Blanc, 5% Viognier, 5% Macaebo (Viura)
  • Alcohol: 13.5%
  • Rating: Black 90 Dilettante 90

Description: The nose is brimming with tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, peach, apricot and roses. The attack is crisp and dry like a lettuce leaf. Refined and sophisticated in the mouth, the flavors carry from the nose to the tongue. This wine is very fruity and very dry with just enough glycerin to soften the edges nicely. The finish has grassy elements and some apricot. We really liked this one and think it would go with a variety of foods. Definitely one to keep on hand. So far, every wine we have tried from Bodegas Vinos Pinol has been excellent-- their reds, sweet desert wines and now their white.

    Price: $14

Note: Mr Z, we think you would really like this one.

Description: The nose is fruity and floral with a hint of green olive. The attack is sweet with enough glycerin for a velvety smooth mouth-feel. On the palate there are notes of honey, peach, lychee, melon with enough citrus for nicely balanced lift. The pear finish is clean, crisp and lightly dry. This beautfully blended wine brings out the best characteristics of each grape. It sings.
