Illahe Viognier 2008

  • Area: Oregon, Willamette Valley
  • Grape: Viognier
  • Alcohol: 12.5%
  • Rating: Black 88 Dilettante 89
Description: The expressive nose of honeysuckle, peach, honeydew and pineapple carries all the way through to the finish. Full attack with a clingy mouthfeel. The flirty finish has just enough acidity to balance the sweetness.

Sainte Fleur Triennes Viognier 2006

  • Area: France, Var Provence
  • Grape: Viognier
  • Alcohol: 13%
  • Rating: Black 90 Dilettante 92

Clay Station Viognier 2006

Area: California, Lodi
Grape: Viognier
Alcohol: 13.5%
Rating: Black; 81 Dilettante; 81

Description: Soft and lightly fruity, this lack luster wine has subtle flavors of peach, honeysuckle and orange blossoms. Unfortunately, most of the flavor is on the finish. We didn't think it was bad; it just had no nose and not much of a taste. In a word: boring. We will not buy this one again.

Smoking Loon Voignier 2005

  • Area: California, Napa
  • Grape: Voignier
  • Alcohol: 13.5%
  • Rating: Black 86, Dilettante 84
Description: The aroma is very floral with a touch of spice. This wine is quite dry with flavors of nectar and honey that clings to the mouth. The finish is also dry with strong notes of crushed grape seeds. For a simple wine it was pleasant enough although the bitter finish was a bit off-putting.

Biondi Viognier 2005

  • Area: California, Mendocino County
  • Grape: Viognier
  • Alcohol: 13.5%
  • Rating: Black; 87 Dilettante; 90 NWJR; 90
Description: For those looking for an un-oaked white wine without all the citrus, this Viognier is an excellent choice. Flowers, peaches and pears make up the nose on this wine. Lots of glycerin gives this a silky-smooth mouth feel. Flavors of honeycomb, orange blossoms, melon, pears, and just a hint of grapefruit make for a very fruity, dry wine. The finish is lingering and mellow.

Food Pairing: fried cod, lobster, richly prepared seafood

Cline Viognier 2005

  • Area: California, Sonoma
  • Grape: Viognier
  • Alcohol: 13.5%
  • Rating: Black; 87 Dilettante; 88
Description: The nose is unobtrusive with hints of flowers and mango. Glycerin supports flavors of flowers, melon, peach and apricots that play nicely across the tongue. The lingering finish has a pineapple zip that beautifully balances the wine's light sweetness. Careful not to over chill this beauty.

Food Pairing:
Spicy coconut based Thai, richly prepared seafood dishes such as langoustines in a ginger cream sauce.
