Stormhoek Pinotage 2006

  • Area: South Africa, Western Cape
  • Grape: Pinotage
  • Alcohol: 14%
  • Rating: Black 90 Dilettante 89
Description: Fruit forward, ultra smooth and slightly creamy, this wine attacks with jammy fruit and finishes dry. Flavors of black fruits, mulberry, raisin, cherry and a hint of yam are bright and friendly. This wine has presence without the austerity of a pinotage. Stormhoek puts a freshness meter on the screw top bottle indicating it's supposed to be drunk young. We really liked it, especially for the price. We will definitely buy this one again. Decanting not required although some air brings out the jam.

Price: At $8, this is a prince in pauper's clothes.

Note: This was great with blue burgers. The label says this is also good with spicy foods.
