Barcelona is an interesting city. We spent 4 days wandering the old stone streets of the Barri Gothic. Since the Universitat de Barcelona is in that section, street performers abound. Guitarists, jugglers, African style percussion groups, mimes, acrobats, the list goes on. Most nights they perform until 2 or 3 am. The old city walls make for some excellent acoustics.
One night we stumbled across something special. It was a father and son singing an opera duet about men going to war and leaving the women they loved behind. They sang passionately for coins thrown at their boom box.
There was something about those two that captured the feel of the old city that night. I loved it.

Of all the cities I visited in Europe, Barcelona was my very favorite. So much to see and do. Great food, wonderful people. Did you get to see much of the Gaudi architecture?
And I agree with you, Eclectic, about the Barri Gothic.

Yes, we went through the Cathedral and saw the exterior of the "house of bones." I'm not sure if that's the official name, but I'm sure you will know what I mean. His architecture is so....Gaudi. We loved it.
