Description: The Wine Spectator review for this wine is all over the web. It uses words such as "hoisin sauce", "mesquite" and "fig paste". After struggling to find these unique flavors so elegantly explained, we gave up and listened to our own taste buds. So these people get paid to write cool reviews of many different wines. Are they always right? Did they have a great time scanning a thesaurus, or was it the glass? Hmm, could be the glass.

This is how we describe this Cote du Rhone.

Only 35% of this wine is aged in oak. The nose has elements of black fruit, earth, black peppercorn, a little wood and a hint of country pond. It attacks fruity-sweet and finishes bone dry. Nicely layered and thick in the mouth, this wine is filled with well structured dark fruits, slate, coffee, spice, black currents and a hint of anisette. It's thick without being chewy and has just enough high notes to give it character without being sour. We really liked this one. Decanting not required. Since it's unfiltered, there may be shmutz on the bottom.

Price: $18
