According to MSNBC today, George Bush said, "Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century,".
Unbelievable.
.What a liar.
.
And the press is going along with this stinking, steaming pile yet again.
- The truth of the matter is GW has been putting high pressure on Russia's neighboring states to join NATO.
- GW has been putting high pressure on the NATO countries to allow these states membership.
- Russia and Ossetia have been long standing allies.
- The US overthrew the democratically elected leader of Georgia and installed this guy Saakashvili.
- The US has been training Georgians in the military arts and giving them money and weapons.
- The Georgian military budget has gone from 3 million to over 1 billion in the last few months.
- In mid-July, Georgian and U.S. troops held war exercises called "Immediate Response." There were about 1,200 US and 800 Georgian troops invited to this little soiree.
- Condi went to visit Georgia last week.
- Georgia attacked South Ossetia on 8-7. Funny how it coincided with the Olympic opening ceremonies, right after Condi's visit.
- The attack was limited to civilian areas. Hospitals, schools, universities, housing complexes.
- Russia defended it's ally. Just as the NATO countries are supposed to defend each other in the event of attack.
In the report this morning, nothing was mentioned of Georgia's aggression on Ossetia. The toadies printed this quote from George Bush.....
"He said Russia's escalation of the conflict had "raised serious questions about its intentions in Georgia and the region" and had "substantially damaged Russia's standing in the world." "These actions jeopardize Russia's relations with the United States and Europe," Bush said. "It's time for Russia to be true to its word to act to end this crisis."
What is this asshole in the white house trying to accomplish with all this? Oh right, stupid question. There's an oil pipeline that runs through the area.
.
.I am disgusted with the main stream media for portraying this conflict as big bad Russia picking on itty bitty Georgia without provocation. Why oh why, is the press working so hard to stir up that old American anti-Russia sentiment?
.
By getting Georgia to attack Ossetia, Jr. has really poked the Russian tiger. Not to mention the whole NATO thing and the anti-missile shields at Russias borders. They knew what would happen with a Georgian attack on Ossetia.
.
Is this really about oil, or is this about GW proving to the world he's no lame duck? Is he trying to push Russia back to a hard-line dictatorial regime?
.
And also, where will this lead? A modern Russia/US cold war, or will it be worse than that?
.
What's wrong Shrub, Iraq wasn't big and bad enough for you? Are you looking to take on some one your own size -- namely Russia? In case you can't see through that blood lust haze that permeates your brain, Russia has nukes. Or is that part of the objective?
.
All this for one measly oil pipeline?
.
What's really sick about this is all those civilans who have been killed, maimed, left homeless, etc, etc. in Ossetia. They haven't done anything. They've been bombed and now they're being ignored.
.
This whole thing is nauseating.

I agree with your conclusion, but I still think you give far too much credit to Bush. This whole thing is being run by the State Department operation, and most of the bigwigs there are holdovers from the Clinton years*. These are long-termers with an agenda. Bush is a puppet. The man can barely put together a sentence, let alone concoct a strategy like this. And Condi just goes where she's told and says what she's told to say, too.
In a very short time, Bush will be gone. But crap like this will still go down, as it has for years.
* I'm not blaming Clinton. He had his own distractions that kept him from being the puppetmaster, too. ;-)
He who gives the order is responsible.
Hear, hear! Regardless of what the media reports about the genesis of the crisis though, many people are aware of the real causes.
What a mess.
I agree with you Eclectic, If Bush refused to give the order it wouldn't come to be. Perhaps someone should tell Bush that he can just say NO! Bush is getting something big out of this or he wouldn't be doing it. McCain doesn't have the balls to just say no, does Obama? My guess is they gain too much from it to have any ethics or morals at all and if they do the "stars" in their eyes get in the way of any insight.
Shame on them all.
ed: Don't get me wrong, I'm not absolving him. And I agree with grrrlions: The concept of "the buck stops here" is completely foreign to this administration.
